Hi, my name is Kwaiuv Martineau, I am a member of the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah from the Koosharem Band.

My name in Paiute means “Magpie” but is shortened from the full word Maw’Kwaiuv. On the day I was born a magpie sat outside my place of birth talking human, he stayed around until I came into this world and then left. My mom had a hard labor with me and my family was worried something bad might happen, the Magpie came to tell them everything would be okay and talked for a long time but they could not understand the words. I was named after this bird who came to assure my family everything would be alright.

 

I love nature and grew up spending our summers camping and living in a tipi every weekend attending various Native gatherings and powwows throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. I have danced since I could walk and grew up on the road traveling to new places and enjoying the great outdoors. 

 

I settled down over a decade ago and now have my own little family and no longer travel like I used to.

I have two beautiful girls who we love dearly. My girls are my world and I cherish every moment I spend with them as I watch them grow in beautiful young ladies.

I love to garden and being outdoors as much as I can.

 

 I found photography was a great way to capture all the beauty I see while enjoying nature. The little creatures that live in my backyard talk to me in their own little way and allow me to get up close and personal to be photographed. I feel the same way with the flowers and plants in the Spring when they bloom and showcase their beauty as I capture this from behind the lens. 

 

I strongly believe pictures are healing and are there to brighten our day, therefore I want to share my photography with you all in hopes they bring happiness just as it does for me. Each photo tells a story and speaks to us all in different ways.
